Accident – Death – Obituary News : Laneisha Shantrice Henderson, a 26-year-old former Navy sailor, was arrested on Thursday, December 7, for allegedly attempting to burn down the childhood home of Martin Luther King Jr. The incident took place on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, where the historic home is located. Henderson was caught on video pouring gasoline on the property before she was stopped by tourists from Utah.

According to an incident report, the two tourists initially did not suspect any nefarious motive when they saw Henderson outside pouring liquid on the bushes. However, they became alarmed when they noticed the gasoline container and pleaded with her to stop. Despite their pleas, Henderson continued to pour the gasoline, and it appeared that she was rushing to complete the act. Bystanders quickly intervened and detained Henderson until the police arrived at the scene. The incident report also mentioned that Henderson allegedly attempted to ignite a lighter while being restrained.

Henderson, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from Eufaula High School before enlisting in the Navy. She served in the Navy for four years, during which she earned medals for good conduct and received other accolades. However, her father revealed to WSB-TV that she was currently experiencing a mental health episode. He added that they had been searching for her for two days before she was apprehended for attempting to burn down the historical home.

On her Facebook account, which appeared to belong to Henderson, her last post on December 7 featured a series of slides, including a judgment tarot card with an image of Donald Trump. The motive behind her attempt to burn down the childhood home of Martin Luther King Jr. remains unclear.

Following the incident, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center expressed gratitude to those who intervened and prevented the destruction of the historic property. They acknowledged the bravery of the good Samaritans and the prompt response of law enforcement. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated that their actions had saved an important part of American history.

Henderson was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation before being booked on charges of second-degree arson and interfering with government property. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving historical sites and the need for mental health support and intervention..
