Accident – death – Obituary News : Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Woman in Aligarh Police Station

In a shocking incident, a police officer in the city of Aligarh, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, mistakenly shot a woman from close range inside a police station on Friday afternoon. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Ishrat, is currently admitted to the government hospital and her condition is reported to be critical.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani confirmed the incident, stating that Ishrat sustained injuries at the back of her head. The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the absconding policeman, Manoj Sharma, who was in charge of the Bhujpura Outpost.

As a consequence of his actions, Sharma has been immediately suspended from duty and a criminal case has been registered against him. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.

According to the footage, Ishrat can be seen standing inside the police station. Moments later, a police official approached Sharma and handed him a pistol. In a tragic turn of events, Sharma accidentally discharged the firearm, hitting Ishrat and causing her to collapse on the ground. Preliminary reports suggest that Ishrat had visited the CCTNS office in Kotwali Nagar for passport verification.

SSP Naithani expressed his concern over the incident, stating, “A bullet was fired from Manoj Sharma’s pistol in the CCTNS office, resulting in serious injuries to the woman standing nearby. The hospital staff is providing her with the best possible medical treatment. The victim’s family has informed us that she had come for passport verification, accompanied by her son.”

Naithani further added that a team of senior officials has been appointed to investigate the matter thoroughly. The accused inspector, Manoj Sharma, has been suspended pending further inquiry. The department has also approved a formal inquiry against Sharma, along with the registration of a criminal case. Naithani emphasized that the incident not only signifies negligence and indiscipline but also constitutes a criminal act.
