Accident – death – Obituary News : RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A Reno resident has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 40 years following his involvement in a gang-related shooting that took place in 2022.

Kamahri Berreman, a 19-year-old man, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, and as a result, he will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years behind bars.

The incident occurred in March 2022, when officers from the Reno Police Department swiftly responded to reports of a fatal shooting at a local convenience store. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Eliazer Obed, tragically lost his life in the incident. Additionally, a young woman sustained a gunshot wound to her shoulder and was promptly transported to Renown for medical treatment.

During the investigation, the wounded woman revealed to the authorities that she had attended a party at a residence on Plumas Street before heading to the convenience store. Shockingly, she disclosed that another shooting had taken place at the party prior to the incident at the store.

Further examination of the case unveiled that Berreman had driven two gang members to the vicinity of the convenience store with the intention of targeting rival gang members who were present at the house party. These two gangs had a well-documented history of violent feuds, often resorting to retaliatory shootings.

The rival gang members had parked their vehicle at a gas pump when Berreman, alongside two others, opened fire on them through a fence. Tragically, one of the bullets struck and ended the life of Eliazer Obed, while the young woman sustained serious injuries.

Authorities managed to locate Berreman the following day as he was leaving his apartment. Realizing he was being pursued, he attempted to flee on foot, discarding the handgun used during the shooting in a desperate bid to evade capture. However, law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended him.

During questioning, Berreman confessed to police that he had driven to the convenience store, firing an entire magazine’s worth of rounds before fleeing the scene.
