On Sunday, the Roanoke Police responded to a distress call requesting a well-being check at a residence on Lawrence Avenue SE. During the investigation, officers peered through a window and discovered the lifeless body of Douglas Wayne McFall lying on the floor, surrounded by pools of blood. Authorities determined that McFall had sustained multiple stab wounds and had been deceased for several days.

Upon identifying David McFall, the son of the deceased, as a suspect in his father’s murder, the police intensified their search for him.

Later that day, law enforcement officers spotted David McFall walking near Melrose Towers. As they approached him, McFall opened fire, critically injuring Officer Lauren Camper. In response to the imminent threat, the police returned fire, fatally shooting McFall.

Following the incident, Officer Camper received medical treatment and is now recovering at home, as confirmed by Roanoke Police Chief Scott Booth.
