Richmond father murder IHIT : “Derrek Chen, 46, Identified as Victim in Richmond Double Murder”

Derrek Chen, a 46-year-old man, has been identified as the victim of a double murder that occurred on November 30 in Richmond. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is currently seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video leaving the scene.

The suspect, who was caught on surveillance footage, can be seen wearing a white hat, a balaclava, and light blue jeans. IHIT is urging anyone who may have seen the suspect or has any information related to the case to come forward.

In addition to releasing the identity of the victim, Derrek Chen, IHIT has also confirmed that his 13-year-old son was also killed in the incident. However, out of respect for the family’s privacy, the name of the minor will not be disclosed at this time.

Authorities are particularly interested in speaking to individuals who were parked on roads leading to Rocky View Playground, which is located next to Steveston-London secondary school. IHIT believes that the suspect may have taken one of these streets when fleeing the scene. They are urging anyone who may have been in the area or has dash cams or video surveillance cameras to review their footage and report any findings to the investigation team.
