Wilmington, DE – A man who had been reported missing from Wilmington since November 25th has tragically been identified as the individual found near a creek in the Hockessin area. Delaware State Police were alerted to the incident after a driver noticed a vehicle off the road on Lancaster Pike, just west of Hercules Road. Bobby Pipkin, 42, was discovered near the wreckage on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the police, Pipkin was driving his Mitsubishi Outlander in a westerly direction on Lancaster Pike when he lost control of the vehicle, crossing into the eastbound lane. Eventually, he veered off the south edge of the road, crashing into a guardrail. The exact duration Pipkin had been at the crash site remains unknown, but he was reported missing from Wilmington at the end of November.

The news of Pipkin’s tragic demise spread through social media channels, where his family had actively sought assistance in locating him. A GoFundMe page titled “Help bring Bobby home” had been set up to aid in the search efforts. The page stated that Pipkin was last seen in the vicinity of West 4th and North Jackson streets around 1 a.m. on November 25th, shortly after leaving his aunt’s 70th birthday party.

This particular stretch of Lancaster Pike has witnessed several fatal and non-fatal accidents over the years. In December 2019, two pickup trucks crashed through a guardrail in the same area, causing considerable damage. Furthermore, in September 2021, an excavating crew made a gruesome discovery when they stumbled upon a decomposed body inside a vehicle involved in a fatal wreck that had gone unnoticed for days or even weeks.

Delaware State Police filed a missing person report on the day Pipkin disappeared, and the Wilmington Police Department released a news statement three days later, seeking public assistance in locating him. On Friday, shortly after Pipkin was publicly identified by the authorities, Delaware State Police issued a brief news release stating that he had been located.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, with authorities determined to determine how the wreckage and Pipkin’s presence went unnoticed for over a week. Delaware State Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact them.
