In December 2019, two pickup trucks crashed through a guardrail in the same area, causing considerable damage. Furthermore, in September 2021, an excavating crew made a gruesome discovery when they stumbled upon a decomposed body inside a vehicle involved in a fatal wreck that had gone unnoticed for days or even weeks.

Delaware State Police filed a missing person report on the day Pipkin disappeared, and the Wilmington Police Department released a news statement three days later, seeking public assistance in locating him. On Friday, shortly after Pipkin was publicly identified by the authorities, Delaware State Police issued a brief news release stating that he had been located.
