Madinat al-Baath, Quneitra region – In a recent development, four individuals lost their lives in what is believed to be an Israeli airstrike in the Madinat al-Baath area of western Syria. Reports from Syrian sources indicate that the strike targeted a vehicle, allegedly carrying members affiliated with Iran-backed militias operating in the region. The incident took place just a few kilometers away from the Syrian-Israeli border on Friday afternoon.

According to the pro-Assad newspaper, Al-Watan, four badly burnt bodies were brought to a nearby hospital, making it impossible to identify them.

Shortly after news of the airstrike surfaced, rocket sirens and drone infiltration alerts were heard in the northern Galilee area, particularly in and around Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. This incident occurred in close proximity to the reported airstrike, raising concerns about a possible retaliatory attack.

This incident followed the firing of two rockets from Syria into the Golan Heights on Thursday. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out strikes on Syrian sites. Syrian media reported that Israeli artillery targeted locations near the town of Hadar in Quneitra.

Less than a week ago, two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in alleged Israeli airstrikes near Damascus. The IRGC identified the victims as Mohammad Ali Ataee Shoorche and Panah Taqizadeh, stating that they were on an “advisory mission” in Syria.

The Syrian Capital Voice news site revealed that the recent airstrikes targeted sites in Set Zaynab, Aqraba, and Hudzajra, all linked to Iranian and Iran-backed forces. One of the sites allegedly stored arms shipments from Iran destined for militias in Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Another targeted location housed an advanced air defense system, while the third was near a Damascus airbase where Iranian military officials and weapons warehouses were situated.

Since Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, a series of reported Israeli airstrikes have occurred in Syria. This raises concerns about an escalation of tensions in the region.

In a separate development, the commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, reportedly visited Syria three times since October 7. During these visits, he held meetings with Syrian President Bashar Assad and Vice President of Syria for Security Affairs Ali Mamlouk, as reported by the Syrian Capital Voice news site.

The situation remains tense as both Israel and Iran continue to carry out military operations in Syria. The ongoing conflict between the two rivals in the region has the potential to further destabilize an already volatile situation..
