The victim has been identified as Verna Mae Jackson, an 86-year-old individual whose family is now being represented by attorney Jeff Rosenblum.

According to the Memphis Police Department, emergency services were called to the hub at 11:21 p.m. on November 30th following reports of an accidental death.

Reports suggest that an employee sustained severe injuries while carrying out her duties and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts made by medical professionals, she was pronounced dead.

This tragic event marks the fifth fatality that has occurred at the FedEx World Hub since 2017, raising concerns about the safety and working conditions at the facility.

In response to the incident, FedEx issued a statement expressing their condolences to the family of Verna Mae Jackson. The company also assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to an article published in The Daily Memphian, Jackson worked as a package handler at the “old hub” where FedEx manages freight destined for major airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Eyewitnesses reported that on the night of the incident, a tug driver who was pulling a load of mail failed to sound his horn as he began moving. Simultaneously, Verna Mae Jackson hurriedly reached out to grab a loose envelope that caught her attention.

Tragically, Jackson was unable to move out of the way in time, and she was struck by a 2,500-pound dolly, which ultimately resulted in her untimely demise.

Attorney Jeff Rosenblum has stated that he and Jackson’s family are patiently awaiting the official report from the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration before deciding on any potential legal action.
