The victim, identified as Verna Mae Jackson, was tragically killed during her work at the hub, according to her family’s attorney, Jeff Rosenblum.

The Memphis Police Department swiftly responded to the incident, receiving a distress call at 11:21 p.m. on November 30th, reporting an accidental death at the hub.

According to the police, an employee was severely injured while performing her duties and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

This unfortunate incident marks the fifth death that has occurred at the FedEx World Hub since 2017, raising concerns about the safety protocols in place at the facility.

Expressing their condolences, FedEx released a statement extending their sympathies to Jackson’s grieving family. The company also assured the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is underway.

As reported by The Daily Memphian, Jackson worked as a package handler at the “old hub,” where FedEx handles freight shipments destined for major airports such as John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a tug driver, responsible for hauling a load of mail, failed to provide an audible signal before taking off. Tragically, Jackson, in her haste to retrieve a loose envelope protruding from a container, was caught off-guard by the sudden movement and was unable to avoid being struck.

The aftermath of the incident revealed that Jackson had been pinned beneath a massive 2,500-pound dolly, leaving her with fatal injuries.

Attorney Rosenblum stated that he and Jackson’s family are patiently awaiting the official report from the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The findings of this report will determine the subsequent legal action to be taken.
