KANE COUNTY, IL — A devastating incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a tight-knit community in shock and mourning. Tragically, a 63-year-old man lost his life after being struck by his mother’s sports utility vehicle in the driveway of their residence, situated west of Elgin.

Unfortunate Incident at Plato Township Home

The heartbreaking accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the residence located in the 11N200 block of Romeo Drive in Plato Township. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office released a statement detailing the incident, shedding light on the unfortunate sequence of events.

According to authorities, the 85-year-old mother was in the process of repositioning her sleek 2016 black Lincoln SUV within her driveway. However, a tragic misstep occurred when she accidentally pressed down on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.

Son Identified as Victim

The victim of this heartbreaking incident has been identified as Steven Ackmann, a 63-year-old resident of Hampshire. As fate would have it, Ackmann happened to be walking in front of the SUV at the time of the accident, making him the unfortunate target of the vehicle’s unintended acceleration.

Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, but tragically, Ackmann succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location shortly after the accident occurred.
