A tragic incident occurred in Ogun state as a bus driver, identified as Alfa Rafiu, and a two-year-old girl lost their lives in separate road accidents. The Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this distressing news in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

According to Odutola, the first accident involved a reckless truck driver named Emmanuel Alfred, who collided with a commercial bus, resulting in the death of the bus driver. The commercial bus, with the registration number KWARA AFN 890 YNL, was being repaired by Alfa Rafiu when the truck crashed into it. The impact of the collision was fatal, claiming the life of Rafiu instantly. His lifeless body was then transported to the Real Divine Touch Mortuary in Ibafo, while the damaged vehicle was taken to the police station for safekeeping. The truck driver has been apprehended by the police and is currently under custody.

In another unfortunate incident that took place on December 2nd, a two-year-old girl lost her life in Warewa, Obafemi Owode local government area. The accident occurred when a vehicle accidentally ran over the child. Tunde Poopola, who witnessed the incident, reported that the driver failed to notice that his rear tire had struck the little girl and continued driving. However, upon hearing the shouts of onlookers, the driver stopped to investigate the commotion. Realizing what had happened, the driver, along with other concerned individuals, rushed the severely injured child to the Patti Robbo Clinic. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to the Broadland Hospital in Magboro. Tragically, the two-year-old girl was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

The police have promptly detained the driver responsible for the accident. Despite the family’s insistence on taking the deceased child’s body, it was released for burial after necessary procedures were completed.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution and responsibility while operating their vehicles. The loss of two lives, including that of an innocent child, underscores the devastating consequences of negligence on the road.
