Witnesses described the terrifying scene, with one professor recounting how she and others took cover under a desk in her classroom. She said that she was trying to remain calm for her students, but the experience was something she never wants to go through again.

Details of the shooting are still unclear, with conflicting reports from officials. Sheriff McMahill stated that the shooting began on the fourth floor of Beam Hall, a building that houses the university’s business school, and then moved to other floors before ending outside where the suspect was neutralized. Reports have emerged that the suspected gunman was a 67-year-old college professor who had connections to schools in Georgia and North Carolina. However, it is unclear what his affiliation with UNLV was.
