Teen Assaulted in Calabasas: Angel Sanchez Jr. Attacks Grandfather and Nathan Manyari

Accident – Death – Obituary News : CALABASAS, Calif. (KABC) — A 14-year-old boy is speaking out after he was assaulted in Calabasas by a man who investigators believe also violently attacked a grandfather in his 60s just moments before.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, when the suspect, identified as Angel Sanchez Jr., approached a grandfather who was pushing his infant granddaughter in a stroller along Lost Springs Road, according to the local sheriff’s department. The horrifying assault was caught on surveillance video, which has since gone viral.

In the footage, Sanchez can be seen unexpectedly throwing a punch at the unsuspecting grandfather. The force of the blow causes the man to stumble back, nearly losing his balance and almost tipping over the stroller that holds his 10-month-old granddaughter. Fortunately, the baby remains unharmed.

Following the initial attack, Nathan Manyari, a 14-year-old resident of Calabasas, found himself on the receiving end of Sanchez’s violent behavior. Manyari, who spoke with ABC7 on Wednesday night, recounted the terrifying incident that took place on a bike path near Agoura Road. The teenager was on his way to his boxing gym when he crossed paths with Sanchez.

According to Manyari, Sanchez began grabbing the back of his shirt and hitting the back of his head. In a desperate attempt to seek help, Manyari approached a couple of joggers and asked them to intervene. However, Sanchez ignored Manyari’s plea and walked away without uttering a word. Within moments, Manyari found himself under attack.

Sanchez aggressively grabbed Manyari’s collarbone area, pulling him back and repeatedly striking the back of his head. In an act of self-defense, Manyari protected himself as best he could, sustaining a busted lip in the process. After the assault, Sanchez simply walked away, leaving Manyari to seek refuge in his boxing gym, where his concerned coach, Gift Davis, witnessed the injuries inflicted upon the young boy’s face.

Alarmed by the sight, Davis immediately rushed to the scene of the attack, but Sanchez had already disappeared. However, the authorities were not far behind in their pursuit of justice. Sanchez was apprehended on Wednesday in Oxnard and has since been booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station on charges of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury.

While both victims in these attacks were of Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) descent, the motive behind Sanchez’s violent outburst remains unclear. The sheriff’s department is currently investigating the incidents to determine the underlying cause.
