Shane James Identified as Suspect in Texas Shooting Rampage That Left Six Dead

Accident – death – Obituary News : TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — The suspect responsible for the tragic killing of six people and injuring several others in Texas has been identified by police. Shane James, a 34-year-old man, was arrested following a mental health call at his parents’ house. The suspect’s parents were among the six individuals who lost their lives.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed during a news conference that James had initially evaded arrest, despite a warrant for cutting off his ankle monitor. However, he was apprehended later and is currently being held in Travis County Jail. Authorities have charged him with capital murder, and he is expected to face trial in the coming days.

The series of violent incidents began on Tuesday when James allegedly shot an Austin Independent School District police officer outside Northeast Early College High School. Fortunately, the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Shortly after the school shooting, 911 callers reported gunshots in different locations. Responding officers discovered a deceased man and woman in the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive. The victims’ identities have not yet been released.

Another shooting incident occurred on West Slaughter Lane, where a cyclist was shot. Although details regarding the victim’s injuries are scarce, authorities have confirmed that they are not life-threatening.

The situation escalated further when a burglary was reported on Austral Loop. Upon arriving at the scene, an officer encountered James in the backyard of the targeted residence. James immediately opened fire, striking the officer multiple times. The officer returned fire, but James managed to flee the scene in a vehicle.

A high-speed chase ensued, leading to James’s eventual arrest after he crashed at the intersection of South Highway 45 and FM 1826. Inside the home on Austral Loop, authorities discovered two additional deceased individuals. Their identities have yet to be disclosed.

The injured officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition. Meanwhile, investigators uncovered a connection between James and a residence in East Bexar County. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was contacted to assist in the investigation. Upon entering the home, deputies found two individuals in their 50s dead in a small room. However, the cause of death remains undetermined.

Sheriff Salazar believes that the killings in Bexar County initiated the violent spree that unfolded on Tuesday. The motive behind the attacks and whether they were random or targeted remains unclear. Authorities continue to investigate the tragic events.
