Shane James Arrested in Texas Shooting Rampage That Left Six Dead and Multiple Injured

The suspect, Shane James, 34, was apprehended after a mental health call at his parents’ house and was subsequently arrested. Authorities booked James into Travis County Jail on charges including capital murder of multiple persons, where he is currently being held without bond.

The tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, with a series of violent incidents reported in both Austin and Bexar County. Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson revealed that James is believed to have shot an Austin Independent School District police officer outside Northeast Early College High School. Fortunately, the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, and a full recovery is expected.

Shortly after the school shooting, 911 callers reported hearing gunshots in the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive. Upon arrival, police discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman. Their identities have yet to be revealed. Another shooting occurred around 5 p.m. when a cyclist was shot on West Slaughter Lane. Although the extent of the cyclist’s injuries remains undisclosed, they are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The disturbing chain of events continued at 6:50 p.m. when a burglary was reported in the 5300 block of Austral Loop. Responding officers encountered James in the backyard of the residence, who immediately opened fire, striking an officer multiple times. The officer managed to return fire, but James fled the scene in a vehicle.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, with authorities relentlessly pursuing James. Approximately 15 minutes later, James crashed at the intersection of South Highway 45 and FM 1826, resulting in his arrest. Inside the home on Austral Loop, officers discovered two additional lifeless bodies, whose identities have not been disclosed.

Fortunately, the officer shot by James is in stable condition and is expected to recover. Following the shootings, investigators contacted the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after establishing a connection between the suspect and a home in East Bexar County. Authorities forced entry into the residence, where they found two individuals in their 50s dead in a small room. The circumstances surrounding their deaths are yet to be determined.

Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that there are strong indications that the deaths in Bexar County were the catalyst for the subsequent violence, although the motive and whether the attacks were random remain unclear. The investigation into these tragic events is still ongoing.
