Manhunt launched for suspect who fatally stabbed Esther Michavi and wounded a Good Samaritan

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Police in Giyani, Limpopo, are on a manhunt for a suspect who fatally stabbed his 42-year-old girlfriend and injured a man who tried to intervene. The incident occurred in Nwakhuwani Village in the early hours of Wednesday.

The victim, a mother of four, had been staying with a friend after experiencing domestic problems with her boyfriend. The suspect gained entry to the house, which was reportedly under construction, through an improperly locked door. He proceeded to stab the victim multiple times.

As the attack unfolded, the owner of the house attempted to intervene but was also threatened by the suspect. She managed to escape and seek assistance from the community. A brave man, seeing the unfolding violence, attempted to rescue the victim but was also stabbed multiple times by the suspect. The assailant fled the scene following the attack.

Paramedics arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, they could only certify the victim, identified as 43-year-old Esther Michavi, as deceased. The wounded man was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

The police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder in connection with the incident. The Limpopo police commissioner, Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe, has praised the bravery of the man who attempted to rescue the victim. Hadebe strongly condemned the senseless attack, particularly as it occurred during the 16 Days of Activism campaign against violence targeting women and children.

“This is indeed a sad incident that will also leave emotional scars on the victim’s children. The brutal attack is a setback for us, especially as the nation is still observing the 16 Days of Activism campaign for no violence against women and children,” said Hadebe.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward and assist with their investigation.
