Gunman Identified as Career College Professor in Deadly UNLV Campus Shooting

The president of national gun violence organization Brady also issued a statement, expressing concern for the UNLV students who will be affected by the shooting for the rest of their lives. The organization called for a change in America’s relationship with firearms and highlighted the proximity of the UNLV campus to the site of the 2017 Las Vegas massacre, the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

The UNLV campus is only a short distance from the Mandalay Bay Hotel, where the 2017 mass shooting took place. The incident, carried out by Stephen Paddock, resulted in the deaths of 60 people and injured over 400 others. This shooting at UNLV marks the 80th school shooting in the US this year, with 51 occurring on K-12 campuses and 29 on university and college campuses.

The number of students on campus at the time of the shooting is still unclear. Classes at the university have been canceled through Friday, and a UNLV basketball game scheduled for Wednesday night was also canceled. The shooting prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a ground stop of all flights coming into Harry Reid International Airport, located near the university.
