Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims Good Samaritan’s Life in Dakota County, Nebraska

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning, as a sequence of crashes unfolded on Interstate 129 in northeast Nebraska, resulting in the untimely death of a selfless Good Samaritan.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the initial accident report that came in around 5 a.m. The collision had taken place in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 129, involving a 2008 Toyota Camry, which had been reported stolen from South Sioux City, Nebraska.

According to the sheriff’s office, the stolen Camry was traveling eastbound on I-129 when it collided with the center median barricade, causing grave damage to the vehicle.

Two compassionate Good Samaritans, recognizing the urgency of the situation, stopped their vehicles to offer assistance to the driver of the stolen Camry.

Tragically, while the Good Samaritans were rendering aid, a second vehicle approached the scene, traveling eastbound on the interstate. The driver failed to notice the wreckage and struck both the crashed Camry and the selfless individuals who had stopped to help. The force of the impact also propelled the second vehicle into a third car parked on the shoulder of the highway.

Regrettably, one of the Good Samaritans, a 66-year-old resident of South Sioux City, lost their life as a result of the collision, while the other sustained injuries.

Both the surviving Good Samaritan and the driver of the second vehicle were promptly transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

Shockingly, the driver of the stolen Camry fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities are currently conducting an intensive search to locate the driver, but at present, no physical description is available, except that the suspect is male.

In a separate incident, a collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-129 shortly after the initial eastbound crash. Fortunately, this subsequent collision resulted in no serious injuries.

Both crashes took place on I-129, between the Dakota Avenue exit and the Missouri River. As a safety precaution, the eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate were temporarily closed.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is appealing to the public for any information regarding the whereabouts of the driver of the stolen vehicle. If you have any information, please contact the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
