Family Members Speak Out After Shooting Spree: Remembering Sabrina Rahman and Emmanuel Pop Ba

The devastating incident occurred on Tuesday, December 5, when two people lost their lives on Shadywood Drive.

The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Sabrina Rahman and 32-year-old Emmanuel Pop Ba. Rahman’s uncle, Marshall Hussain, revealed that she and her family had recently moved into a house on Shadywood Drive. He fondly described Rahman as “the sweetest person in the world” and expressed regret that their family had chosen to relocate to what they believed to be a safer area, only two days before the tragic incident.

In a shocking turn of events, Pop Ba, who was Rahman’s friend and handyman, was shot while he was eating lunch in his truck, which was subsequently stolen. Pop Ba’s brother, Mario Gabriel Cas, expressed his anguish over the incident, stating in Spanish, “It hurts, a family member, they could take this life away in any moment. My brother and I came to this country to work, to give a good life to our families.”

Hussain further revealed that Rahman was walking with her baby when the shooting occurred. In a desperate attempt to protect her child, she pushed the baby behind a car, only to be shot in the face by the suspect. Hussain criticized the police for a perceived lack of timely communication, stating that they should have alerted the community sooner since the suspect had committed another crime earlier that day, not far from their neighborhood.

Despite their immense grief, both families are determined to seek justice for their loved ones. Pop Ba’s family plans to repatriate his body to Guatemala, his country of origin, while Rahman’s family hopes to bring her body back to Bangladesh, where her parents reside.

The tragic events have left the South Austin community in shock and have raised concerns about the effectiveness of communication from the Austin Police Department (APD). While the bravery and dedication of the officers on the ground have been widely applauded, some have questioned the adequacy of the information provided by the police, suggesting that it could have been better.
