The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the initial accident, which took place around 5 a.m. The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes and involved a 2008 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen from South Sioux City, Nebraska.

According to the sheriff’s office, the stolen Camry was travelling eastbound on I-129 when it collided with the center median barricade.

Following the crash, two compassionate individuals stopped to assist the driver of the stolen Camry, displaying acts of good Samaritanism. However, as they were rendering aid, a second vehicle travelling eastbound struck both the crashed Camry and the two good Samaritans, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office. Shockingly, the second vehicle continued its destructive path and collided with a third car parked on the shoulder of the interstate.

Regrettably, one of the brave good Samaritans, a 66-year-old resident of South Sioux City, lost their life as a result of the collision. The other good Samaritan sustained injuries during the incident.

Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen Camry managed to flee the scene, leaving authorities in pursuit. At present, law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect, described only as a male, as they were unable to provide further physical details.

Shortly after the initial eastbound crash, a separate collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-129. Fortunately, this incident did not result in any serious injuries.

The accidents occurred on I-129 between the Dakota Avenue exit and the Missouri River, leading to temporary closures of both eastbound and westbound lanes.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the driver of the stolen vehicle to come forward and contact them.
