The Piper PA-32-300 aircraft, owned by Fliteline Airways and operated by Cyclone Airways, departed Cauayan Airport on November 30 at 9:39 a.m. Its intended destination was Palanan Airport, with an estimated arrival time of 10:23 a.m. However, the plane was reported missing.

A team of 11 rescuers, transported by an Air Force helicopter, was dropped near the crash site on Wednesday, December 6. They reached the wreckage the following day, where they discovered the pilot’s remains. The presence of the shelter raised hope that Escalante had managed to survive the impact.

Joshua Hapinat, spokesperson for the IMT, expressed their sadness at finding the pilot deceased but remained optimistic about Escalante’s potential survival. He stated, “Sadly, the pilot was found lifeless. The lone passenger was not found in the vicinity. However, she appears to have survived the crash as indicated by a makeshift shelter that she presumably put up near the wreckage.”

Weather conditions permitting, the rescuers plan to transport the pilot’s remains to a helicopter landing zone on December 8. From there, the remains will be flown to the Tactical Operations Group 2 in Cauayan City. K9 tracker teams, who were on standby, have also been called in and will be deployed near the crash site. These skilled dogs will follow the scent left by Escalante on the vegetation to trace her path from the wreckage.
