Law enforcement sources have identified the alleged shooter as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, a former college professor who had previously worked in North Carolina and Georgia. Polito had reportedly sought employment at UNLV but was unsuccessful in his efforts. It remains unclear whether his failed job application played a role in the shooting.

The university’s campus police responded swiftly to the sound of gunfire, confronting Polito within minutes. Tragically, three people lost their lives in the incident, while a fourth individual sustained injuries. Polito was armed with a handgun and was killed at the scene by law enforcement officers.

Authorities are now searching Polito’s apartment in Henderson, Nevada, which is believed to be his residence. Additionally, his phone has been obtained and is being examined for any evidence that may shed light on his motive for the shooting. Investigators are also combing through his professional writings, hoping to find any possible clues.

In a press briefing, authorities revealed that the victims killed in the shooting were faculty or staff members of the university, indicating that the attack was not entirely random. However, it is still unclear whether Polito specifically targeted these individuals or if there was any prior connection between them.
