LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Law enforcement sources have revealed that the man responsible for the tragic shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the injury of another, has been identified as 67-year-old Anthony Polito.

On his website, he had published a 15-page document discussing the Zodiac Killer, claiming to have decoded some of the cryptic messages attributed to the infamous Northern California serial killer from the late 1960s. He also expressed a fondness for Las Vegas, having visited the city approximately two dozen times over the past 15 years.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Polito described himself as a “semi-retired university professor” residing in Las Vegas. He listed his previous employment at East Carolina University from 2001 to 2017 and claimed to hold a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Georgia, as well as a master’s in business administration from Duke University.

The investigation has revealed that Polito initially fired upon the police officers who responded to the scene, prompting them to return fire, resulting in his death.

As the community mourns the loss of the victims, UNLV and local authorities are providing support and resources to students, faculty, and staff affected by the tragedy.
