JEYPORE: In a devastating turn of events, a young man lost his life when a tree branch fell on him while he was performing the last rites of his father at Kamata village in the Borigumma block of the Koraput district in Odisha.
The unfortunate incident took place on Wednesday when Benudhar Mandal, a 27-year-old resident of Kamata village, was bidding farewell to his late father. Benudhar, who owned a food stall in Koraput town, had brought his father’s body back to their native village for the funeral. Accompanied by other family members, they proceeded to the village cremation ground to perform the final rites.

Local residents attributed the incident to the incessant rains that had been lashing the area since Tuesday night, triggered by the influence of cyclone Michaung. They believe that the heavy rainfall weakened the tree branch, ultimately leading to the tragic accident.
