According to the Long Beach Police Department, the incident took place on July 9 at approximately 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of California Avenue and Harding Street. Authorities received reports of a hit-and-run collision involving a dark-colored sedan and a bicycle.

Investigators have determined that the vehicle intentionally struck the cyclist, who was traveling east on Harding Street at a high speed. The victim, identified as Leobardo Cervantes, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on July 26.

The teenage suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, was already in custody on unrelated charges when he was identified as a suspect in the hit-and-run case. He was subsequently arrested on Wednesday and is now facing charges of murder.

The motive behind the fatal incident remains under investigation by the authorities. Long Beach Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Donald Collier or Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
