The incident involved a 2021 Nissan Rogue driven by 16-year-old Malik Smith, with five other passengers aged between 8 and 17.

According to reports, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the highway, veering off the road before colliding with a boulder and a tree. Tragically, the impact caused the car to burst into flames, resulting in the death of all family members on board, except for a 9-year-old who managed to escape through a shattered rear window. The surviving child sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Westchester County Police Department conducted a meticulous examination of the accident scene and the vehicle involved. Their findings confirmed that there was no evidence of a collision that forced the car off the road.
