Hyderabad Couple Tragically killed in Khammam District

In the wake of severe cyclonic storm Michaung in the Bay of Bengal, parts of Telangana experienced heavy rain resulting in tragic consequences. A couple lost their lives on Wednesday due to a wall collapse in the Cheruvu Madaram village of Nelakondapalli mandal, located in Khammam district. The incessant rain that had been battering the region since Tuesday was responsible for the wall’s collapse. The deceased have been identified as Pullaiah (45) and Lakhsmi (38).

Sheep Loss and Crop Damage Reported in Khammam District

Further devastation caused by heavy rain was observed in the Aswapuram mandal of Khammam district, where 40 sheep lost their lives. Additionally, undivided Khammam and Warangal districts witnessed significant crop damage. Farmers endured substantial losses as the crops, which were ready for harvest, were severely affected. The heavy rain wreaked havoc on paddy, cotton, maize, and chilli crops in various mandals, including Khammam, Wyra, Aswaraopet, Yellandu, Pinapaka, and Palair constituencies.

Farmers Demand Compensation as They Grapple with Losses

The affected farmers have urgently called upon the government to provide them with compensation to mitigate their losses. They are seeking assistance to recover from the extensive damage caused by the heavy rain. The downpour has significantly impacted their livelihoods, and they hope that the government will swiftly respond to their plea for support.

Coal Production Hit in Jayashankar Bhupalpally District

In addition to the human and agricultural casualties, heavy rain has also disrupted coal production in two open cast mines owned by the state-operated Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The adverse weather conditions have forced the suspension of coal mining activities, posing challenges for the mining industry and hampering the supply of coal to power plants and other consumers.

Recorded Rainfall Levels in Bhadradri Kothagudem District

The Telangana State Development Planning Society reported that Maddukuru and Aswaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, with over 30 centimetres recorded within a 24-hour period until 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Additionally, five other locations in the same district received rainfall exceeding 21 centimetres, contributing to the already dire situation caused by the severe cyclonic storm.
