CASS COUNTY, Ind. — A tragic incident occurred in Cass County, Indiana on Wednesday when an 89-year-old woman was attacked and killed by a 100-pound dog that is currently on the loose. Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder confirmed the incident in a news release on Wednesday afternoon, stating that Beverly Hayden had been fatally attacked by a pit bull in her own living room.

Fatal Attack

The attack took place in the early morning hours, and emergency responders were called to the scene at around 5:50 a.m. The authorities arrived at the 200 block of County Road 400 West to find Hayden suffering from severe injuries caused by the dog attack. Despite their efforts, Hayden succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by Cass County Coroner George Franklin.

The initial investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office revealed that the attack occurred in Hayden’s living room, where she was assaulted by her own pet pit bull. A family member attempted to intervene and stop the attack but was unable to prevent the tragic outcome.

Dog on the Loose

After the attack, the pit bull managed to escape from the residence and is currently still at large in the area. Authorities have described the dog as a 100-pound black pit bull with a white chest, and it is not wearing a collar. Despite efforts to locate the dog using a drone from the Logansport Police Department, it has not yet been found.

Officials are urging anyone who encounters the pit bull to immediately call 911 so that animal control can respond and safely capture the dog. It is important to remember not to approach the animal on your own if it is spotted.
