The World Health Organization (WHO) claimed on Tuesday that it was forced to move supplies from a WHO medical warehouse in southern Gaza within 24 hours after the IDF warned that it would operate on the ground in the area, which would make the warehouses inaccessible during the operation.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted an appeal to Israel on X, formerly Twitter, and called on it to withdraw from the order “and take every possible step to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and humanitarian facilities.”

Shannon Barkley from the WHO team in the Palestinian territories said in a media briefing that the World Health Organization personnel in Gaza managed to “complete part of the evacuation of the warehouse to a new facility”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that it was forced to relocate supplies from a medical warehouse in southern Gaza within 24 hours due to an IDF warning of an upcoming operation in the area. The IDF’s operation would have made the warehouses inaccessible during the operation.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of WHO, took to Twitter to appeal to Israel to withdraw the order and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and humanitarian facilities. The WHO team in the Palestinian territories managed to evacuate part of the warehouse to a new facility, according to Shannon Barkley, a representative from the organization.

Israel, however, denied the claim made by WHO and stated that it had clarified the situation to UN representatives, who did not comment on the matter. The conflicting reports highlight the complexities and challenges faced by humanitarian organizations operating in conflict zones.

The situation in Gaza remains tense, with ongoing conflicts and limited access to essential supplies and healthcare services. The WHO plays a crucial role in providing medical aid and support to the affected population. The relocation of the medical supplies underscores the need for uninterrupted access to healthcare facilities during times of conflict.

International organizations like WHO must navigate difficult circumstances to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians in conflict zones. The protection of medical warehouses and humanitarian facilities is vital to provide essential services to those in need. Efforts should be made by all parties involved to facilitate the smooth provision of humanitarian aid in challenging environments..
