Homicide of Thane Cameron Clayton: CCTV Footage Released of Vehicle of Interest

Accident – death – Obituary News : CCTV footage collected from the area has provided crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation into the homicide of Thane Cameron Clayton. The footage confirms that the victim was walking westbound on 10th Avenue S.W., towards Sixth Street S.W., when a dark-colored SUV pulled up alongside him. An occupant of the vehicle then fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene.

In an effort to gather more information and locate the vehicle and driver, homicide investigators have released CCTV images of a vehicle of interest. The vehicle is described as a blue Honda Pilot, believed to be a model from the years 2016 to 2022. It was seen in the area of the Beltline shooting around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The CCTV footage shows the vehicle traveling both eastbound and westbound on 10th Avenue S.W. It remained in the vicinity of 10th Avenue S.W. and Sixth Street S.W. prior to the murder. After the shooting took place, the vehicle fled the area by heading south on Sixth Street S.W. It ran a red light at 11th Avenue S.W. before turning west onto 13th Avenue S.W. The vehicle continued west on 13th Avenue S.W. until finally turning south on 11th Street S.W.

Authorities are urging anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam footage, or any information about the identity of the vehicle or driver, to come forward and assist with the investigation. The Calgary Police Service and Crime Stoppers can be contacted with any relevant information.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, when officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 600 block of 10th Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased man with apparent gunshot wounds.

Following an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday, December 1, 2023, the victim has been identified as a 40-year-old man. It is believed that he is not from the Calgary area, but has ties to Vancouver, B.C., Edmonton, Alta., and Halifax, N.S. The victim’s name will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.

At this stage of the investigation, there is no information to suggest whether this was a targeted incident.

Detective Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit emphasized the importance of video footage and witnesses in holding the offenders accountable for this brazen attack. He urged anyone with information to come forward.
