Assistant at Kozhikamuthy Elephant Camp Found Dead near Sethumadai

A cavady, who served as an assistant to a mahout at the Kozhikamuthy elephant camp in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), was discovered deceased near Sethumadai on Tuesday.

The deceased individual was identified as Rajkumar, a permanent cavady at the camp situated close to Top Slip. Rajkumar’s lifeless body was found near the Manakadavu Amman temple, approximately 10 metres away from the Sethumadai – Top Slip road. This particular area falls under the Sethumadai west section of the Pollachi forest range within the ATR.

According to ATR officials, Rajkumar had been absent from his duty for the past three days, prompting concerns and leading to the notification of the Police and Revenue Department officials regarding his unfortunate demise. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and have registered a case accordingly.

A senior official at the ATR highlighted that the exact cause of Rajkumar’s death remains unknown, and further details are expected to be revealed following the completion of the police investigation.
