Man Fatally Shot in South Minneapolis Identified by Officials

Authorities have officially identified the victim of a double shooting that occurred in south Minneapolis during the early hours of Monday morning. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office stated in a news release on Tuesday that the deceased individual is 34-year-old Darius Renee Wilson from Burnsville. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest.

The incident took place at the intersection of E. Lake Street and 12th Avenue S., situated on the border of the Phillips and Powderhorn neighborhoods. Minneapolis police received a dispatch call just after midnight and arrived at the scene to find Wilson and a woman in her 40s injured from gunfire on the sidewalk.

The woman, whose injuries were noncritical, was immediately transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) for treatment. Tragically, Wilson succumbed to his injuries at the location and was pronounced dead.

According to the authorities, a number of individuals were present in the vicinity when the shooting occurred near the Midtown Global Market at 12:05 a.m. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, leaving the police with an ongoing investigation.

This incident adds to the string of shootings that took place over the weekend, including an armed carjacking, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving at least seven others wounded across the city.
