Accident – Death – Obituary News : Inquiry Launched After Rats Allegedly Nibble Away Parts of Woman’s Body at Uttar Pradesh Hospital

In a shocking incident, an inquiry has been ordered after it was reported that certain parts of a 24-year-old woman’s body were nibbled away by rats at a government hospital mortuary in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The woman, identified as Anubha Yadav, had tragically died by suicide in the Khailar village and her body was sent for postmortem on Saturday.

The distressing discovery was made on Monday when the family members arrived at the hospital and found the woman’s body lying on the floor, with her face partially eaten by rats. Outraged by the negligence and lack of proper care, the family staged a protest and demanded action against those responsible. The matter was eventually resolved after district administration officials assured them that appropriate measures would be taken.

To investigate the incident, Chief Medical Officer of Lalitpur, Dr Imtiyaz Ahmed, promptly formed a three-member committee. Dr Ahmed stated, “There is an allegation that rats nibbled away parts of the body. An inquiry is being conducted by a three-member committee, and soon the reason will be clear.”

The committee’s investigation will also focus on why the body was not stored inside a deep freezer at the postmortem house. Sources revealed that although there are six deep freezers in the facility, two of them are currently out of order. This raises concerns about the hospital’s maintenance and infrastructure, further highlighting potential lapses in ensuring the dignity and preservation of deceased individuals.

According to preliminary information, on Saturday, the police received a report of a newly-married woman’s alleged suicide. Anubha Yadav had been married for approximately five months. A police team immediately responded to the situation, visiting the house and subsequently sending the body for postmortem.

Circle Officer of Kotwali, Abhay Narain Rai, shared that Yadav’s family has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband, Hirdesh Yadav, and three other family members, accusing them of dowry-related murder. However, a video retrieved from Yadav’s mobile phone allegedly shows her dying by suicide, according to a police officer.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, Rai confirmed.

This distressing incident raises serious concerns about the maintenance and security measures at the government hospital’s mortuary. The incident not only highlights a potential breach of hygiene standards but also sheds light on the need for a more robust system to ensure the protection and dignity of deceased individuals. The inquiry ordered by the Chief Medical Officer will play a crucial role in uncovering the truth behind the alleged rat infestation and the negligence surrounding the preservation of Anubha Yadav’s body.

Efforts must be made to address the infrastructure issues at the postmortem house, particularly the dysfunctional deep freezers, as this incident has exposed the hospital’s inability to provide adequate facilities for preserving bodies. It is imperative that immediate action is taken against those responsible for the negligence, in order to prevent such distressing incidents from occurring in the future.

The case of Anubha Yadav’s tragic death and the subsequent nibbling of her body by rats has sparked outrage and demands for better standards of care and accountability in the healthcare system. The investigation’s findings will be crucial in determining the course of action to rectify the situation and ensure that such a devastating incident is never repeated..
