KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has initiated an investigation into an officer-involved shooting incident that took place at an apartment complex in Kansas City, Kansas in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) called upon the KBI to conduct a thorough investigation on December 4, at approximately 3:20 a.m. Swiftly responding to the request, KBI agents along with the Crime Scene Response Team arrived at the scene to commence their inquiry.

Initial reports suggest that around 2:55 a.m., a concerned citizen dialed 911 to report gunshots being fired in the parking lot of an apartment complex located near the intersection of 61st St. and Leavenworth Rd. Responding promptly, officers from the KCKPD arrived at the scene and were confronted with a distressing sight. From a window on the second floor of an apartment building, a male individual, later identified as 21-year-old Dominic A. M. V. Lee, from Kansas City, Kansas, was seen brandishing a rifle. Alarming the officers, Lee pointed the weapon towards one of them. In response to this imminent threat, a KCKPD officer discharged a single round, striking Lee in the shoulder.

Taking immediate action, the officers entered the apartment and successfully apprehended Lee without any further complications. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene and expeditiously transported Lee to a nearby Kansas City hospital, where he received prompt medical attention for his injuries. Fortunately, none of the officers sustained any injuries during the incident.

Following his release from the hospital earlier today, Lee was promptly taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for the aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. Subsequently, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Lee was formally booked into the Wyandotte County Jail. It is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
