A tragic incident unfolded on Monday as the lifeless body of a 12-year-old boy was discovered in a dense area along the Thirumalairajan river bund in Kuchipalayam village, located in Tiruvarur district. According to police sources, Aravindan was returning home in the company of his classmates when they decided to pause their journey and engage in fishing activities at a nearby pond. It was during this time that Ilavarasan, who happened to be present at the scene, allegedly lured Aravindan away to a secluded bushy area, where the merciless act of murder took place. Ilavarasan, who had previously worked overseas for a couple of years and was currently unemployed, was reportedly suffering from depression and undergoing medication.

The heart-wrenching incident came to light when Aravindan failed to return home from school, prompting his mother, Ambika, to launch a frantic search for her beloved son. During her search, she encountered Ilavarasan, who shockingly revealed that her child had been eliminated. Distraught and filled with anguish, Ambika stumbled upon the lifeless body of her son, bearing grievous head injuries, in the bushy area adjacent to the river bund.

Upon further investigation, the police interviewed the students who had accompanied Aravindan that fateful evening. They corroborated the account provided by their fellow classmate, confirming Ilavarasan’s involvement in the incident. The authorities also discovered bloodstains on the shirt and ‘lungi’ worn by Ilavarasan, which led to his subsequent arrest.

The lifeless body of the young victim has been transferred to Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital for a detailed autopsy. It is hoped that the examination will shed light on the type of weapon used to perpetrate this horrifying crime.
