Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Pedestrian, Vishnudat Ramilan, and Motorcyclist in Guyana

Accident – death – Obituary News : Pedestrian tragically killed by unlicensed female driver at Soesdyke

A 52-year-old man, identified as Vishnudat Ramilan, also known as “Sanko” of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, lost his life on Saturday evening following a fatal accident at First Hill, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about road safety.

According to the police report, the accident occurred at approximately 6:25 pm when a motor car with registration number PMM 2014, driven by a 27-year-old unlicensed woman, was traveling east along the northern side of the highway. The driver noticed a male pedestrian in the center of the roadway and attempted to avoid him by swerving. Tragically, the right-side wing mirror collided with the pedestrian, causing him to fall onto the road.

To compound the tragedy, another motor car with license plate PJJ 807, traveling at a high speed, was unable to avoid the fallen pedestrian and struck him. Vishnudat Ramilan suffered severe injuries to his head and body, and unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were called to the scene and transported the injured man to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Both drivers involved in the accident were arrested and are currently assisting with the ongoing investigation. The incident has sparked a debate about the prevalence of unlicensed drivers on the road and the need for stricter enforcement of licensing regulations.

In a separate incident on the same evening, a motorcyclist also lost his life in an accident at Melanie on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD). Details about this accident are still scarce, and the authorities have yet to release any information.

Road accidents continue to be a major concern in Guyana, with fatalities and injuries occurring all too frequently.
