Accident – death – Obituary News : Nearly 100 junta troops were killed in a fierce battle in northern Shan State’s Konkyan Township last week, after refusing to surrender to anti-regime forces. The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) reported that these soldiers were part of a column of approximately 280 troops who had been fleeing attacks in the Kokang Self-Administered Zone since the beginning of the week.

The column consisted of remnants of various units, including about 100 troops who had been on the run from Konkyan since November 27. They had fled the town along with their leader, a commander from Military Operations Command 16, to avoid being captured. The MNDAA claimed that its forces successfully eliminated 20 regime troops in the Shee Shan area of southern Kokang on November 30, and at least 70 more in the same area the following day.

A video obtained by Myanmar Now revealed the grim aftermath of the battle, with the lifeless bodies of several soldiers wearing Myanmar military insignia lying in pools of blood, their weapons still by their sides. The MNDAA also shared images on its social media accounts, showcasing the large quantities of seized weapons and ammunition.

Interestingly, just days prior to this incident, an entire junta battalion, along with its commanding officer, surrendered to MNDAA forces on November 28. In response to these setbacks, the military has resorted to carrying out airstrikes across the region, not only targeting combat zones but also civilian areas.

On December 1, an aerial attack in Namkham Township resulted in the death of at least one person and left five others injured, as reported by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), a close ally of the MNDAA. The TNLA, which has also accused the regime of using chemical weapons, claimed that the military dropped cluster bombs on Namkham’s Nawng Sant ward at approximately 9:30 pm.

The victim, identified as Ba Oo, was a man in his 30s who had sought refuge at a local monastery. It is worth mentioning that Namkham has been under TNLA control since early last month, except for one base to the east that is still manned by junta troops. According to locals, the soldiers stationed there have been relentlessly firing heavy artillery into the town and continue to resist capture.

The junta’s relentless airstrikes and artillery fire have resulted in the deaths of at least 60 civilians and left over 100 injured in ethnic Ta’ang areas since the commencement of the anti-regime offensive in late October, according to data compiled by the TNLA.
