The estranged husband of Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four, has been charged with her murder after her body was discovered in a storage unit in Orange County, Florida. Rucker was reported missing by her family on November 11, according to previous reports by CNN.

Authorities had initially stated that Rucker’s family reported she had left her home for an unknown destination, possibly with her estranged husband, Cory Hill. However, last month, law enforcement officials announced that her disappearance was being investigated as a homicide after her body was found in a storage unit registered to Hill.

In a statement released on Friday, prosecutors from the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit confirmed that formal charges had been filed against Cory Hill for the murder of Shakeira Rucker. They also revealed that Hill remains in jail under a no bond status, following his arrest in November for attempted second-degree murder and other charges against his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Cory Hill, 51, was initially booked into the Orange County Jail on November 13 for an unrelated shooting incident, where he was charged with four counts of attempted murder. According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, Hill had allegedly shot at a former girlfriend and her family on November 12.

Prosecutors announced that Hill now faces an additional charge of Second Degree Murder (With a Firearm) for the death of Shakeira Rucker. Her body was discovered in a self-storage facility located at 2400 Wiggins Road in Apopka after a complaint was made about a foul smell emanating from a unit registered to Hill. When deputies opened the unit, they found Rucker dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

In the wake of Rucker’s tragic death, her family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her four children, aged 7 through 18.

The prosecutors stated that they will seek a first-degree murder indictment in Rucker’s homicide. However, due to procedural rules, they are currently limited to filing a Second-Degree Murder charge by Information before presenting the case to the Orange County Grand Jury.

CNN has reached out to the public defender listed as Hill’s legal representation for comment. The investigation into Shakeira Rucker’s murder is ongoing.
