Accident – Death – Obituary News : Police Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Vehicle Involved in Homicide Case

Calgary, AB – Homicide investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle of interest that is believed to be connected to the recent homicide of Thane Clayton. The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has released CCTV images of the vehicle and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

The vehicle in question is described as a blue Honda Pilot, manufactured between 2016 and 2022. It is believed to have been present in the area of the Beltline shooting on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at approximately 8:50 p.m.

CCTV footage reveals that the vehicle was seen traveling both eastbound and westbound on 10 Avenue S.W. It remained in the vicinity of 10 Avenue S.W. and Sixth Street S.W. before the murder occurred. After the shooting, the vehicle fled the scene, heading south on Sixth Street S.W. It then ran a red light at 11 Avenue S.W. before turning west onto 13 Avenue S.W. The vehicle continued west on 13 Avenue S.W. until it finally turned south on 11 Street S.W.

Authorities are now urging individuals in the area who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, or any information about the identity of the vehicle or driver, to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

In an update provided by the CPS, the victim has been identified as Thane Cameron Clayton, aged 40. The police have requested that anyone who had recent contact with Thane reach out to them with relevant information.

The initial report indicated that the fatal drive-by shooting occurred on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at around 9:10 p.m. in the Beltline area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of a man with apparent gunshot wounds.

Further analysis of the CCTV footage confirmed that the victim was walking westbound on 10 Avenue S.W. towards Sixth Street S.W. when a dark-colored SUV pulled up beside him. An occupant of the vehicle proceeded to fire multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene. The suspect’s SUV was last seen traveling southbound on Sixth Street S.W. before turning onto westbound 13 Avenue S.W.

The victim, whose identity was confirmed following an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on December 1, 2023, was a 40-year-old man with ties to Vancouver, B.C., Edmonton, Alta., and Halifax, N.S. The police will release the victim’s name once the next of kin has been notified.

At this stage, investigators have not determined whether the incident was a targeted attack or a random act of violence.

Detective Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit emphasized the importance of video footage and witnesses in holding the culprits accountable for their actions. Treit urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
