Accident – death – Obituary News : BARMM Chief Minister Al Haj Murad has admitted that the regional government was caught off guard by the recent bomb attack at Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City. The attack, which was claimed by ISIS, occurred on Sunday morning, December 3, and resulted in the deaths of four people, with 45 others injured.

During a news conference in Cotabato City, Murad acknowledged that there were lapses on the part of the BARMM regional government in monitoring and anticipating the attack. However, he assured the public that steps would be taken to strengthen security measures in the Muslim-majority region to prevent such incidents from happening again.

In response to the bombing, Sultan Kudarat Governor Pax Ali Mangudadatu has offered a reward of P1 million for the capture, dead or alive, of those responsible for the attack. This announcement was made during the Soccsksargen region’s 83rd Regional Development Council meeting in Koronadal City on Monday, December 4.

According to Lanao del Sur police director Colonel Robert Daculan, the perpetrators of the bombing used an improvised explosive device made from a 60-millimeter mortar. The attack took place just two days after the government launched offensives against the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group, resulting in the death of at least 11 militants in Maguindanao del Sur.

The military operation also led to the killing of a newly installed Dawlah Islamiyah leader, known only as Commander Sapal. Additionally, Mudzrimar Sawadjaan, the alleged mastermind behind the church bombing in Jolo, Sulu in 2019, was killed in a military operation in Basilan on December 2. Sawadjaan, a leader of the Abu Sayyaf group that pledged allegiance to ISIS, had fled Sulu due to pressure from the military offensives.

Authorities have identified several “persons of interest” in the MSU bomb attack, including Khadafi Mimbesa, also known as “Engineer,” who is allegedly a sub-leader of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group operating in Lanao del Sur.
