The devastating incident occurred at the intersection of Dairy Road and Hall Street at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to the Melbourne Police Department. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered that the 3-year-old child and their parent had suffered severe bodily harm as a result of the collision.
According to the police investigation, the tragic accident unfolded when the child and two adults were disembarking from a car parked on the southbound side of Dairy Road, preparing to return home. The vehicle they were exiting was towing a trailer. Suddenly, the child darted away from their parents, running behind the trailer and into the northbound lanes of Dairy Road.

In a desperate attempt to halt the child’s dangerous trajectory, the parent, identified as 31-year-old Cassandry Lyn Becher, rushed after them. Tragically, both the child and Becher were struck by a 2009 Honda Pilot traveling northbound on the road. The driver of the Honda Pilot, identified as 56-year-old Stephanos Maminakis, was involved in the accident.
At this time, the extent of Becher’s injuries remains unknown. Regrettably, the 3-year-old child succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the child’s tender age, the police have refrained from releasing their name.
