A tragic incident occurred in Jamalpur’s Sadar upazila early Sunday, resulting in the death of a police constable and leaving another injured. The unfortunate incident happened when a local train collided with a police van at a rail crossing.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Ahsanul Haque, son of Nazrul Islam, hailing from Rajnagar village in Kamlakanda upazila, Netrokona. Ahsanul served as a dedicated constable at Sadar police station. His colleague, Constable Ariful Islam, also suffered injuries in the incident.

Currently, Ariful Islam is admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, as confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahabbat Kabir of the Sadar police station.

According to OC Kabir, the tragic collision occurred around 4:15 am at the Shekhervita rail crossing area when a Dewanganj-bound train struck the police van. The impact of the collision instantly claimed the life of Ahsanul Haque, while Ariful Islam sustained severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses and local sources reported that at the time of the incident, the gate of the railway crossing was not properly closed when the Dewanganj-bound local train from Dhaka was crossing the area. This negligence in ensuring the safety of the crossing possibly contributed to the accident.
