DELHI, INDIA – In a daring operation, the Delhi Police successfully apprehended a man and a minor after they allegedly opened fire outside a scrap dealer’s house in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi. The incident was believed to be an attempt at extortion, according to police officials. The accused were arrested near the metro yard in Yamuna Khadar.

The police took swift action following a complaint registered on November 28, which detailed that two assailants on scooters had fired shots outside the residence of 45-year-old Abrar Ahmed. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey confirmed that three bullet shells were recovered from the scene.

Following the incident, Ahmed received a call from an individual claiming to represent the notorious Hashim Baba gang. The caller demanded a staggering sum of Rs 50 lakh from the scrap dealer. Acting promptly on a tip-off, the police intercepted the two accused at approximately 3:20 am on Sunday, as reported by Tirkey.

“When the two suspects were signaled to stop, they abandoned their scooter and attempted to flee in the dark. One of them, later identified as Akki, opened fire at the police team. In response, the police team retaliated, injuring Akki in his right leg,” said Tirkey.

The law enforcement authorities managed to arrest Akki and apprehend the minor after a brief chase. Two pistols were also recovered from the suspects. Akki, who sustained a bullet injury, has been taken to a hospital for further medical treatment.

During the interrogation, Akki revealed that he was a close associate of the notorious Hashim Baba gang. He confessed to being involved in several criminal cases, including murder and extortion, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

It is worth mentioning that this incident underscores the increasing prevalence of extortion activities in the region. The Delhi Police have been relentless in their efforts to combat such criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of the citizens.

The police officials are continuing their investigation into the matter, aiming to gather more evidence and bring all individuals involved in the extortion attempt and firing incident to justice. The Delhi Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.

The Delhi Police’s successful apprehension of the accused has garnered praise from the local community, who appreciate the swift action taken to prevent any further harm. The incident serves as a reminder of the police force’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the city.
