Paramedics worked tirelessly for two hours at the scene, attempting to revive Mr. Taylor who had been without a pulse for a harrowing 45 minutes. Currently, he remains in critical condition as medical professionals fight to save his life.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the hole had been dug for the purpose of cooking a pig. Nathan, one of the witnesses who helped dig Mr. Taylor out, recounted the events leading up to the incident. “He stood up off the chair, and the sand gave away a little bit underneath him,” Nathan said. “He stumbled back, putting his arms out to break the fall, but he continued going down and knocking sand as he did so. He was so deep in the hole that unless you were standing on top of it, you couldn’t even see his feet.”

Immediately, onlookers rushed to Mr. Taylor’s aid, frantically digging to free him. Eventually, they tied a rope to his feet, attempting to pull him from the hole. “There were 15 fully grown men on the end of this rope, and he still would not budge,” Nathan recalled. However, with the guidance of a paramedic, they managed to shift his position and successfully extract him from the sand. “I’m praying that he pulls through this,” Nathan added.

Mr. Taylor’s family has since rallied around him, staying by his side at the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, according to The Courier Mail.

Nathan, who was leaving the beach with his family at the time, shared his experience of arriving at the scene. “I realized someone was head first in a hole, and I was just digging, digging, digging,” he said. “When I first went up to the hole, I couldn’t even see his foot. That’s how deep it was.” Over 15 people joined in the effort to rescue Mr. Taylor before paramedics and rangers arrived. “All of his family were screaming at us, telling us to help, telling us to get a rope so we could pull him out. It was pretty gruesome,” Nathan described.

After an intense period of pulling and digging, the young man finally emerged from the sand. However, the force of being pulled out caused him further injury. “It was pretty gnarly when he popped out. I threw up,” Nathan admitted. “He broke. The suction, the force, of everyone pulling.” Despite the challenges, the man was eventually resuscitated by rangers and paramedics, with his pulse returning after 45 minutes.

The Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed that Mr. Taylor was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition. The rescue operation involved the deployment of a helicopter crew, including a RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and a flight paramedic. These medical professionals worked alongside the rangers and paramedics on the scene to stabilize the injured man before airlifting him to the hospital.

QAS Paramedic Peter Batt commended the efforts of those who provided assistance. “The fact that they have got a return of pulse on this young man after an extended period of CPR is evidence that good CPR was being done. It’s a credit to those people who got in and helped with their first aid,” he said.
