Accident – Death – Obituary News : French authorities have launched an investigation into a potential “terrorist plot” following a disturbing incident in central Paris over the weekend. A man, who was already known to authorities as a radical Islamist with mental health issues, attacked and killed a tourist, while also injuring two others, before being apprehended by the police.

The attack took place around 9:00 pm on Saturday near the iconic Eiffel Tower. This incident has occurred at a time when France is on high alert due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The terrorism prosecutors have confirmed that they are looking into the case of the assailant, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, a 26-year-old French national born to Iranian parents. He was arrested at the scene and is suspected of murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist plot.

Tragically, a 23-year-old man, who has been identified as a German-Filipino citizen, lost his life in the attack. However, the quick intervention of a taxi driver prevented the assailant from harming his wife. The couple, both nurses, were at the scene when the incident occurred. While the woman escaped physical harm, she was severely shocked. Additionally, a 66-year-old British citizen and a 60-year-old French national sustained injuries during the attack.

Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau has provided an update on the condition of the wounded victims. He stated that their injuries were superficial physically, but they will likely experience significant psychological trauma. Prosecutors have scheduled a press conference for Sunday evening to provide further updates on the ongoing investigation.

As part of the investigation, three individuals who are believed to be associated with Rajabpour-Miyandoab have been taken into custody. The government has also called for a security meeting, which will be attended by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin. Borne has expressed her determination not to succumb to terrorism, while President Emmanuel Macron has extended his condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

The attacker, Rajabpour-Miyandoab, had been on the radar of authorities due to his extremist views. Witnesses reported that he shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “God is greatest”) during the attack. According to Darmanin, the suspect expressed his anger towards the killings of Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine and accused France of being complicit in Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.

The attack has garnered international attention, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressing his devastation and solidarity with the victims. Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has emphasized the heightened threat of Islamist terrorism, particularly in the wake of the conflict in Gaza. It has also been revealed that Rajabpour-Miyandoab claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media video, where he discussed current events, the government, and the plight of innocent Muslims.

Investigators are now delving into the assailant’s medical history, as sources suggest that he was mentally unstable and easily influenced. Rousseau confirmed that Rajabpour-Miyandoab was receiving monitoring and treatment for his mental health issues, but he was not hospitalized. The attacker had previously been sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning another attack in the La Défense business district of Paris, which he ultimately failed to carry out.

The incident highlights the complex interplay between ideology, mental health, and the susceptibility of individuals to extremist influences. French authorities are committed to investigating the case thoroughly to gain a deeper understanding of the motives behind the attack. In the face of this tragedy, France remains resolute in its determination to combat terrorism and protect its citizens..
