Tragic Stabbing Incident Leaves Four Family Members Dead in Far Rockaway

On Sunday morning, a horrifying incident unfolded in Far Rockaway as four members of a family were brutally stabbed to death. The tragedy further escalated when the suspect, later identified as Courtney Gordon, attacked two NYPD officers with a knife, resulting in the police having to fatally shoot him. NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey provided details of this distressing incident during a news conference.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident began when two officers responded to a distressing call from a teenager who reported that her cousin was “killing her family” at a residence located on 467 Beach 22nd Street. The officers arrived at the scene and approached a man who was seen leaving the house with luggage. Tragically, this man, identified as 38-year-old Courtney Gordon from the Bronx, attacked the officers with a knife, forcing one of them to use lethal force to protect themselves, as stated by Chief Maddrey.

Gordon, who was visiting his family members at the residence, succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Police investigations revealed that he had a prior arrest related to domestic violence strangulation, shedding light on a possible motive for this gruesome act.

Complicating the situation further, the police had to wait for the fire department, FDNY, to extinguish a couch that had been set on fire, presumably by Gordon. Only then were they able to enter the residence and assess the full extent of the tragedy that had unfolded.

Inside the house, authorities discovered the lifeless body of an 11-year-old girl. Additionally, a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s were found dead. Amidst this devastating scene, they also found a 61-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Both injured police officers were promptly transported to Jamaica Hospital, where they are expected to recover from their injuries, according to the Police Benevolent Association.

During the investigation, a kitchen knife was recovered from the scene as the only weapon found. The NYPD is now diligently working to establish a motive behind this heinous crime that has shocked the community.
