Estranged Husband Charged with Murder of Woman Found in Florida Storage Unit

The estranged husband of a woman whose lifeless body was discovered in a storage unit in Orange County, Florida, has been arrested and charged with her murder, according to authorities. The victim has been identified as Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four.

Rucker was first reported missing by her family to the Winter Springs Police Department on November 11. Her family informed the authorities that they had last seen her on that day, as previously reported by CNN.

During the initial investigation, the police revealed that Rucker’s family believed she had left her home to go to an unknown destination, possibly with her estranged husband, Cory Hill.

Law enforcement officials in Florida later announced that they were treating Rucker’s disappearance as a homicide after her body was found in a storage unit registered under Hill’s name.

On Friday, the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit released a statement confirming the filing of murder charges against Cory Hill for the death of Shakeira Rucker. The statement also mentioned that Hill was already in custody for attempted second-degree murder charges against his ex-girlfriend and her family, with no possibility of bail.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina had previously disclosed that Hill, aged 51, was arrested on November 13 for an unrelated shooting incident. He was accused of shooting at his former girlfriend and her family, resulting in four counts of attempted murder.

The prosecutors announced on Friday that Hill now faces an additional charge of second-degree murder (with a firearm) for the death of Shakeira Rucker. Her lifeless body was found in a self-storage facility located at 2400 Wiggins Road in Apopka, after someone reported a foul smell emanating from one of the units registered to Cory Hill.

Upon opening the storage unit, law enforcement discovered the deceased woman, later identified as Shakeira Rucker, with apparent gunshot wounds, stated Sheriff Mina.

Rucker’s grieving family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her four children, aged between 7 and 18.

Prosecutors have confirmed that they will seek a first-degree murder indictment in relation to Rucker’s homicide. However, due to procedural rules, the state is currently limited to filing a second-degree murder charge by information before presenting the case to the Orange County Grand Jury, as stated in the official statement.

CNN has reached out to the public defender listed as Hill’s legal representation for comment, but no response has been received at the time of writing.
