The breakthrough in the case came when authorities discovered a firearm in Powell’s vehicle during his arrest for the San Dimas shooting, as reported by the Associated Press. Powell was taken into custody by the Beverly Hills Police Department on Thursday for investigation into the shooting death of a 42-year-old man.

LAPD HQ, the official Twitter account of the Los Angeles Police Department, commended the successful apprehension, stating, “Great partnership and use of technology to take this suspected murderer off the streets.” However, they did not disclose the specific technology employed in the operation.

The fatal shootings of the three homeless men occurred towards the end of November during the early morning hours while the victims were either sleeping or preparing to retire for the night. One of the victims, Jose Bolanos, 37, was found dead in an alley at around 3 a.m. on November 26. The following day, Mark Diggs, 62, was shot and killed while pushing a shopping cart at approximately 5 a.m. The identity of the third victim, aged 52, has not been disclosed, but he was fatally shot on November 29 around 2:30 a.m., according to the AP.

On Friday, the police issued a statement seeking information from the public regarding the suspect’s identity or any relevant details. At that time, they were unaware of the potential connection between the three homeless men’s killings and the San Dimas murder.

In response to the recent developments, LAPD Chief Michel Moore expressed gratitude that the suspect is no longer a threat to the community. He also emphasized the collaborative efforts between the LAPD and their city partners to ensure the safety of the vulnerable homeless population while pursuing the criminal investigation.

During a press conference on Saturday, Chief Moore revealed that Powell is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The AP reported that Powell was arrested on Thursday and is currently being held on $2 million bail.

In light of the unknown suspect at the time, the police issued a community bulletin advising individuals to seek refuge in shelters, transitional homes, or stay with friends and family. They also cautioned against venturing into isolated areas, particularly during nighttime, and urged people to remain in well-lit and populated areas.

The arrest of Jerrid Joseph Powell offers a glimmer of hope to the affected communities in Los Angeles, as they can now find solace knowing that the alleged perpetrator is in custody. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement authorities will continue to work diligently to bring justice to the victims and their families..
