Accident – Death – Obituary News : Manila Street Sweeper Arrested Following Gang Fight in Ermita

The Manila Police District (MPD) announced that a 23-year-old street sweeper has been apprehended in connection with a gang altercation that occurred in Ermita, Manila on Thursday, November 30. The suspect, identified as Edmer Buenaflor, a resident of Tondo, Manila, underwent inquest proceedings on Saturday, December 1.

According to the police report, MPD operatives were on a routine motor patrol along Arocerros Street in Ermita at approximately 2 p.m. when they noticed a disturbance near the Old Park n’ Ride transport hub. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a gang fight involving middle-aged men.

As soon as the gang members spotted the police, one of them shouted, “Takbo na may pulis” (Run, there is a police officer), prompting the other suspects to scatter in various directions. A brief chase ensued, leading to the arrest of Buenaflor, while his accomplices managed to evade capture.

During the arrest, the police confiscated a .38 caliber revolver from Buenaflor, which was loaded with three live rounds. The suspect was promptly taken to the MPD-District Special Operations Unit Office (DSOU) to face charges for violations of Article 155 (Alarm and Scandal) of the Revised Penal Code, as well as Republic Act 10591, commonly known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

The MPD remains committed to maintaining peace and order in Manila’s streets and swiftly bringing lawbreakers to justice. Such incidents of public disturbances and possession of illegal firearms pose a threat to the safety and security of the community. The arrest of Buenaflor serves as a reminder that the police force is vigilant and determined to address criminal activities within the city.
