Los Angeles authorities are on high alert as a suspected serial killer continues to target the city’s homeless population. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched a massive search effort to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the murders of three homeless individuals.

The string of killings took place over a span of a few days in November, with each victim shot and killed while they slept or were preparing to sleep. The first murder occurred in an alley in the southeast area of Los Angeles on November 26th, claiming the life of 37-year-old Jose Vamos. The second murder took place in the Central Division on November 27th, with 62-year-old Mark Digs becoming the killer’s second victim. The third and most recent murder occurred on November 29th, claiming the life of a 52-year-old male.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore expressed grave concern over the situation, stating, “Each one was shot and killed as they slept.” In response to the escalating threat, the LAPD will be dispatching additional patrols to areas where homeless individuals congregate.

A special task force has been established by the LAPD to track down the serial killer. Chief Moore announced that homicide investigators from various divisions across the city, as well as additional specialized investigators, will be dedicated to solving the case. The forensic science division is also on standby, ready to process and analyze any potential evidence that may aid in identifying the suspect.

To determine if there are any similar unsolved cases in nearby cities, the LAPD has reached out to law enforcement officials for collaboration. Chief Moore stated, “We have no unsolved homicides outside the city of Los Angeles. Yet our work continues in identifying whether there are any other shooting victims of persons who are experiencing homelessness, which are unsolved and may have any similarities to these homicides.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, expressed concern for the city’s homeless community, emphasizing the need for support and solidarity. “This is a killer preying on the unhoused,” Mayor Bass remarked. She urged homeless individuals to seek shelter, services, and support, and encouraged the public to spread the word and assist in raising awareness.

To aid in the investigation, the LAPD has released two photos—one of the suspect and another of a dark-colored sedan believed to be connected to the murders. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the cases to contact the tipline at (213) 486-6890.
